Local Residents and Park Users for a Green Heart of Hackney
London Fields User Group, May Newsletter
- Come along to our next meeting, Tuesday the 7th. Of May at 8pm.
- We have arranged to meet upstairs at the Pub on the Park, Martello St. E8.
Funding
At last we have received notification of an award for the Community Chest bid for £2500 that we applied for early in the year. It has been reduced to £1000 and is bound up in miles of red tape and has to be spent by the 28th of June. Apart from this it will not be nearly enough to do the work that we wanted it for. We still await notice from Awards for All. We will now have to discuss what limited work can be done with this money.
Hackney Parks Forum
The March meeting where the Regeneration Committee was to confirm official recognition for the Hackney Parks Forum and its Constitution was instructed by Max Caller not to pass the resolution, in spite of widespread support among the Members (including Guy Nicholson the Chair of this committee). and Council Officers. He said that it was too near the council elections and the possible new type Mayoral post.
On Thursday 18th April I was invited along with other User Group Chairs to a meeting with Jim Paterson, the new Assistant Director for the Environment and Parks. We decided at that meeting that the Parks User Groups would act, de facto, as if the Hackney Parks Forum was in existence. The constitution was agreed to and officers were elected.
We will now have to elect 2 representatives for the next Forum meeting.
We lastly heard a report from Suzanne Simmons from Ground Level (not to be confused with Groundwork). She is currently doing an evaluation of urban green space in Hackney to find sites suitable for Heritage Lottery Funding. We will be passing details of London Fields for her to use. Any one with other proposals can contact her at suzanne.simmons@ground-level.org.
Trees Again
There have been 3 tree planted by Hackney Tree Wardens on London Fields. 2 along Lansdowne Drive and one further south. They were donated. We should work closer with the Tree Wardens.
Haggerston Pool
We are now in touch with Liz Hughes at Haggerston Pool. They are now producing a Newsletter on their efforts to reopen. A similar problem to our own with the Lido. Get in touch with their campaign at pool@hced.co.uk.
Regards
Mike Martin (Chair)
